Victorian Plumbing Touchless Bath Voice Prototype

Victorian Plumbing
Designing a voice app prototype for a touchless bath

This task was set by Victorian Plumbing to identify how an app interface for a bath with no physical controls could be designed. As no platform or device was specified in the brief, I have chosen to prototype a voice interaction for a smart speaker app that would be supported on all major voice platforms.

The first step was to perform research into current similar apps on the market to identify competitive threats and opportunities. I found one similar competitor named SmarTap, who offer a shower which can be controlled by a mobile device or smart speaker. Then, I performed secondary research to identify trends in smart speakers and their uses, to reinforce the popularity of a smart speaker app.

In this task, scenario mapping was useful in developing realistic scenarios where users would want to interact with this new technology. This gave a high-level understanding of the habits and behaviours of typical users, along with some ideas on how the service can meet their needs.

I decided to adapt the first two use cases from the scenario mapping exercise into full user journeys and created a user story for each one to better understand their needs. This user insight informed the design of the voice prototypes.
